Over Two-Thirds of Americans Oppose Big Govt/High Taxes

Eat your heart out, Diogenes. You and Obama do not represent average Americans. The longer we live under Obama, the more conservative America becomes; that's the one benefit of having him as our president.

From Rasmussen Reports:

America's Best Days
68% Favor Smaller Government, Lower Taxes

"Sixty-eight percent (68%) of U.S. voters prefer a smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes to a more active one that offers more services and higher taxes. That's the second highest finding in Rasmussen Reports surveying on the question since November 2006, exceeded only by a 70% finding in August of last year.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 24% of voters prefer a more active government with more services and higher taxes. Only 19% felt that way in August 2009 as voters stormed congressional town hall meetings across the country to complain about pending health care legislation, the bailouts of the auto and financial industry and the $787-billion economic stimulus plan.

Just two months ago, 63% favored a smaller government, while 26% opted for a more active one.

In nearly four years of surveying on the question, support for a smaller government has ranged from 55% to 70%, while backing for a more active government has run from 19% to 32%.

Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans and 74% of voters not affiliated with either major party prefer a smaller government. Democrats are evenly divided.

Sixty-one percent (61%) of the Political Class like a more active government with more services and higher taxes. Eighty-two percent (82%) of Mainstream voters favor a smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes instead.

President Obama is expected to announce on Wednesday plans for at least $50 billion in new spending on transportation infrastructure and billions more in tax credits in hopes of jumpstarting the troubled economy. But 55% of voters continue to oppose a second economic stimulus package.

Heading into the final two months of the mid-term election campaign, most voters believe Democrats in Congress want to raise taxes and spending, while Republicans in Congress want to cut taxes and spending. The latest Generic Congressional Ballot finds that 48% of Likely Voters would vote for their district's Republican congressional candidate, while 36% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent. This matches the largest advantage ever measured for the Republicans three weeks ago."

I'm surprised ONLY 2/3 opted for smaller government and less taxes. Hell, I'M for smaller government and less taxes, too... as long as I don't lose in the process!

People ALWAYS want less government, until they lose something that they consider to be a vital service. And who WANTS to pay higher taxes? That's why idiots like JustaDumbass and AnonyMouse are so far off-base with their silly-ass "If you like to pay higher taxes, then go ahead and volunteer."

And it's not because I make less than $250,000 and Obama has "guaranteed" I won't pay higher taxes. I know that's a promise he might well not be able to keep; no President can. But I believe he will do his level best to protect those making less than $250,000 and increase taxes on those making more. I'd bet that nobody on this blog makes more than $250,000, so we're all in the same boat. And, if some miracle of Social Darwinism has occurred and one of you all makes more than $250,000, then more power to you. And more taxes.

Looking in again,

Yes it is easier to suckle at the teat of mother government. Diog, I am wondering if you got enough when you were raised. I guess I would be pissed too. The right understands almost instinctively that when government steps in too far in our lives we lose some of our freedom and humanity. The easy path is protected, safe, with no challenge or growth. Even a mother cat knows when to get up and walk away from her kittens in spite of the whining and crying. Nobody but a liberal could say that life must be fair, though.
I don’t agree with a good deal of the conservative agenda. However when left wing nuts such as yourself spout your party line, it makes me want to head away from you to the right. In this, you might be helping the right more than the left with your narcissistic rants.

I did read the comment about my teaching. I bet someone fifty bucks you would try to insult me by calling me a coach. At least that is the kind of comment one would hear from an elitist left wing-nut. He didn’t take the bet. Said it was too much of a sure thing considering your nature. Oh well. By the way it is Physics and Advanced Chemistry not to take away from coaching. School needs a good balance of both. Many of my best students are athletes as well as scholars. Don’t look for me in school, though. I have left the classroom to return to medicine. After eleven years in the classroom watching the left and the right destroy our schools I couldn’t take anymore. With retirement ahead I couldn’t turn down doubling my salary. After the liberal left is done with my taxes I am going to need the money!

That's right, eric, stand up for that Religious Rightwingnut Ideal. Jesus told us to look out for ourselves and screw everyone else, after all. And chasing the almighty dollar is far more important than anything you might have accomplished in a classroom, so why not? I'm guesssing you're not in psychiatry, what with your limited understanding of the human condition? How is it that caring about everyone in our society -- even those poor unfortunates not blessed with your inherent abilities -- is "narcissistic" and/or "elitist"?

Just a couple of minor appearances for you here,so I have to wonder: are you that full of yourself,or are you that full of shit? Inquiring minds want to know!

Once again the idiot liberal shows his colors. You think Eric was somehow blessed with his job or abilities. Things just fell upon him. Hard work surely had nothing to do with it. I don't know the man, but i'll bet he EARNED everything he has. But liberals have contempt for anyone trying to better themselves. Of course the liberals themselves can earn unlimited money with nary a wimper because they are noble people. No. The achievers are marginalized and ridiculed as being "selfish". I'll ask the same question to the muslim, gay loving abortionist. Have you given your wealth away yet flower child? Do you really need it? Do you really need electricity or a car? Remember, you are helping to "destroy" the planet too. The point is liberal idiots such as diodummy rant about what other people do, then he does some of the same things. The problem with commy liberals; they are happy to volunteer other peoples money. As the gay diodummy said, he's for smaller gov't and less taxes as long as it doesn't affect HIM and his gov't check and benefits. But he's all in favor of taxing the hell out of the real producers, who by the way, pay the idiots salary. What a moron.

JustaDumbass,I didn'tcomment one way or the other on eric's abilities. Yeah, I think he probably was blessed by God with them, but I wouldn't question that he also had to work at it, too.

All that has exactly nothing to do with anything.

But thanks for showing, yet once again, how truly bigoted you are.

Since I defend the rights of Muslims to practice their religion in America, I'm a Muslim?

Since I defend the rights of homosexuals not to be discriminated against because of their sexual preference, I'm a homo?

Since I defend a woman'sright to choose, I'm an abortionist?

We're not talking about "taxing the hell out of the real producers". People that make less than $250,000 won't be taxed any more than they already are. People that make over %250,000 won't be taxed any more on that first $250,000 of their income. And, for the amount they make over $250,000, the tax rates will be the same as they were in the 1990s. They'll generally go from 35% up to 39%. That's not "taxing the hell out of the real producers".

And, no matter what YOU make, please don't include yourself among the "real" producers. ALl you seem to produce is bigotry and bullshit.

DiogenASS: didn't Øbama say that mandating everyone buy health insurance was now a tax?

Isn't that taxing people making under 250,000 a year?

Man, You’re LIES will get you nowhere, thumbsucker!

Actually, I don't recall the President ever saying that. I remember a bunch of rightwingnuts making that claim, but not Obama.

I guess getting your story straight, and having it supported by facts, is not exactly your strong point, AnonyMouse. If a fact ever made its way into one of your comments, it'd have to be by accident.
