Porn Removed from NJ Public School Library

Hey, Diogenes, you said this stuff I've reported about the "purveyor of perversion", Kevin Jennings, was not true. I guess I just fabricated the following story as well.

Wake up! The perversion is slipping into our public schools, thanks to Jennings and the man who appointed him, President Barack Obama. I guess that makes our president the employer of the "purveyor of perversion".

Read from Gateway Pundit:

Sick P*rn Books Removed From NJ Library After Gateway Pundit Report on Obama’s Crazed Safe Schools Czar

"It’s a start…
One of the crazed porn books for kids promoted by Barack Obama’s Safe School’s Czar Kevin Jennings was removed from a New Jersey high school this week.

library book banned

As founder and executive director of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Jennings approved of and promoted several filthy sex books for children. Scott Baker from Breitbart-TV.com and Co-Host of ‘The B-Cast‘ submitted a shocking report to Gateway Pundit blog back on December 4, 2009. The report detailed the reading list promoted to 7-12 grade students by Kevin Jennings’ GLSEN organization. This material has not been reported in detail at Big Government website. Kevin Jennings is still the nation’s Safe Schools Czar. But, at least one new Jersey library won’t be carrying one of his org’s books.
The New York Daily News reported:

'Complaints from a member of Glenn Beck’s 9.12 Project have caused a New Jersey library to shelve a book aimed at gay teenagers.

The book, called “Revolutionary Voices: A Multicultural Queer Youth Anthology,” is a collection of first-person essays by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender teens, sharing their stories of coming out of the closet.

Calling it “pervasively vulgar, obscene, and inappropriate,” Beverly Marinelli, a New Jersey mother, successfully lobbied to have the book removed from the library at Rancocas Valley Regional High School, the Talking Points Memo (TPM) website reports.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Marinelli’s efforts were inspired by right-wing blogger Gateway Pundit’s attacks on Kevin Jennings, President Obama’s openly gay Assistant Deputy Secretary for Safe and Drug-Free schools.

Marinelli and another member of Beck’s 9.12 Project also lodged a similar complaint in another nearby school district.

Librarians responded quickly to the complaints, ordering all copies of the book to be taken out of circulation.

“We need to pull ‘Revolutionary Voices’ from our shelves,” librarian Gail Sweet wrote in an email, obtained by TPM. “Copies need to totally disappear.”

Sweet called the book “child pornography” when asked to explain why the library had banned it.

“We do not like to remove books,” Sweet wrote in an email. “It was felt, however, that the book was not appropriate.”

“Revolutionary Voices” was named among the best adult books for high school students by the School Library Journal in 2001, and was in the school’s library to help young people struggling with issues of sexuality.

Though Marinelli has not read much of the book, according to the Inquirer, she did cite a specific illustration of Boy Scouts watching two men have sex, calling it “the worst.”

She says she isn’t a “homophobe,” just a “normal mother and grandmother” defending her conservative values.

“We did it for the children,” she told the Inquirer.

According to its official website, Beck’s 9.12 Project is aimed at Americans “looking for direction in taking back control of our country
.”'

Congrats Beverly Marinelli!

Of course, there are several more of these controversial sex books still sitting in school libraries across the country. But, at least one New Jersey school won’t be carrying this filth in the school library."

"Boy Scouts watching two men have sex." Is that supposed to be educational?

"Exposing liberal lies and revealing conservative truths."

I wouldn't want to characterize what I did as that, but I have exposed that the actual facts of the case regarding the book removed from the public library are different from what has been repeatedly reported.

I actually spoke with Gail Sweet, and the result is the ACLU got the story very wrong in very significant ways, then everyone reports what the ACLU said as if the ACLU is some unbiased source for information.

Here, take a look at what I wrote based on my conversation with Gail Sweet, and take note of the second comment:

"Et tu, Mary Minow? Then Fall, Gail Sweet!"

Generally, you may also be interested in this:

WILL UNWOUND #193: “Why do Librarians Hate Conservatives?” by Will Manley. (Or this by the same author.)

I can tell you now that reporting is finally starting to include the statements of Gail Sweet and finally getting closer to the truth that what she did was to properly act on her own to apply the library's book selection policy then seek library commission support for its removal. But story after story claims certain things are true because the underlying false stories are supposedly true. It's like an echo chamber, all reporting false information, the same false information the ACLU uses to force communities to act as it wishes.

Let's look at the NY Daily News story, for example, and just its title. "Book aimed at gay teens banned from N.J. public library after complaints from Glenn Beck supporter."

"Book"? True.

"Aimed at gay teens"? Perhaps, but totally irrelevant. The implication is that rules that generally apply to the world such as keeping children from inappropriate material suddenly no longer apply when those children are "gay teens." But the "gay teens" reference results in the outpouring of people suggesting that simply because the book addresses "gay teens," normal rules of anything suddenly no longer apply. And this homosexuality red herring is used to whip up support to pressure the local community to do what outsiders demand.

"Banned from N.J. public library"? False! And here is the most basic fake, phony, fraud argument being made by those trying to force the local community to act as they demand. Simply put, the book was not banned, and no book has been banned in the USA for about half a century.

Libraries have book selection policies and practices. Millions of books are kept out of libraries for failure of compliance with such policies. Gail Sweet applied the policy and ultimately removed the book. It was not banned.

Conservative Christians want libraries to carry books about ex-gays leaving homosexuality by accepting Christ. Libraries are refusing to include such books in their collections. The proponents of the books are claiming the libraries are banning the books. The libraries are arguing they are not claiming, are you ready for this, that the books simply do not fall within the library's selection policy. See the double standard?

(…continuing)

"After complaints from Glenn Beck supporter"? False. The ACLU leaves the impression that is true and the media runs with the ACLU story without getting the truth, but I got the truth directly from Gail Sweet, and now some media sources are finally reporting the truth, though still promoting the false ACLU view.

The truth? Gail Sweet decided to apply the library's book selection policy to the book before she was contacted by anyone!

And the Glenn Beck supporter claim, while true in and of itself, is false in that it is designed to give yet another red herring excuse for pressuring the local community. In reality, liberals, not just conservatives, also oppose, for example, allowing children access to inappropriate material. So why the emphasis on the conservative angle of the story? You can figure it out since you are "Exposing liberal lies and revealing conservative truths."

Nothing like a good old-fashioned book burning to stir the aoul!

What could they be thinking, having an award-winning book on their bookshelves?

But what I don't understand is the personal attack, Ms. MoreLies. Oh, I mean, I understand WHY you make personal attacks... which is why I don't hold back anymore. But I don't understand your point.

You cut & paste all sorts of stuff that is innuendo or outright lie about Jennings, and I call you on it.

So now Kevin Jennings is personally responsible for this book being present on a library's bookshelf?

Did he write the book? No.

Did he sneak in and shove the book onto the library bookshelf? No.

Did he personally recommend the book to the librarian? No.

Did he help start a group that put this particular book on its recommended reading list? Yes.

Just like the School Library Journal (whoever the heck that is) recommended it.

So let's start attacking the School Library Journal, and anyone who ever had any connection with it.

Wasn't Laura Bush a school librarian? HOW DARE SHE! A librarian who allows this sort of smut to be on library shelves?

Rubbish! The lady who bowed to pressure from a Becker ought to lose her job.

I apologize to you, AnonyMouse. I realize that a lot of what I have to say is way above your level of comprehension, but I'm sorry, I can't always find one-syllable words to express more complex ideas.

Letme know if thereare any specifics I might be able to tutor you on, however. A mind -- even yours -- is a terrible thing to waste.

"On rare occasion, we have situations where a piece of material is not what it appears to be on the surface and the material is totally inappropriate for a school library. In that case, yes, it is appropriate to remove materials. If it doesn't fit your material selection policy, get it out of there."
