Negotiations with the Taliban

I just got done praising President Obama for going against his natural tendency towards retreat by giving General McChrystal nearly all the troops requested. I figured Obama does so little that I support that I really should acknowledge the wiser decisions he makes, rare as they are.

But, what good are more boots on the ground, if victory is not the ultimate goal? Why can't the president establish a policy of "We win; you lose"? That's what we want to hear.

Read about the negotiations with the Taliban, via Atlas Shrugs:

Obama Attempts to Surrender to Taliban again ............. If at first you don't succeed, cry cry again

"Once again President Obama is doing his damnedest to turn over as much as possible to the jihad. Earlier this month: Obama fails at Surrender: US offers Taliban 6 provinces -- Taliban says no.

So now Obama is offering Kandahar, Helmand, Oruzgan, Kunar and Nuristan provinces
.

Obama makes me vomit.

Breaking: Obama Negotiating Surrender with the Taliban?

'Strange discussions seem to be flowing across the intelligence wires and Threats Watch has the recon via Memri Blog.

An Afghan source in Kabul reports that U.S. Ambassador in Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry is holding secret talks with Taliban elements headed by the movement’s foreign minister, Ahmad Mutawakil, at a secret location in Kabul. According to the source, the U.S. has offered the Taliban control of the Kandahar, Helmand, Oruzgan, Kunar and Nuristan provinces in return for a halt to the Taliban missile attacks on U.S. bases.'

MEMRI has this:

What the lying commander in chief pretending to be American said in order to steal the Oval office:

September 2008. Check out how Obama has turned. He said anything to seize power. He is like a different person..."

My, doesn't he sound tough? I think Obama missed his true calling. He should have been an actor.

I'm just curious: you're sooooooo intent that we leave Afghanistan with a victory.

What IS a "victory" in Afghanistan? What will it look like? How will we know?

We went into Afghanistan in search of Al Qaeda. We've driven Al Qaeda out of Afghanistan. Now, I know you, as a Religious Rightwingnut, would love to see every Muslim blown off the face of the earth, but that's not going to happen.

So what's the goal? What do we have to do in order for us to be "victorious" in your book?

For starters, we must keep the Taliban from controlling Afghanistan. If you recall, they were responsible for welcoming al Qaeda into their country to plan attacks against America and the West. That must never be permitted to happen again.

We need to help encourage the Afghan people to fight for their country and to turn away from supporting terrorism. It worked in Iraq. I know that Afghanistan is very different, but to pull out and allow the Taliban to rule would be suicidal for our nation's security.

That's ridiculous to think that I want Muslims to die. I don't hate Muslims, though I do despise their violent false religion.

Muslims are deceived individuals who need Christ, just as you are. If I hated Muslims, I wouldn't rejoice over the article that stated that many Muslims were converting to Christianity, now would I?

So our goal is to eradicate the Taliban and "free" Afghanistan? How many decades/centuries do you figure that would take?

How long do you think it would take us to eradicate all Religious Rightwingnuts in America? Is that a legitimate goal?

Eradicating the Taliban is not what we went into Afghanistan for. We went into Afghanistan because that's where Al Qaeda was. They're not there anymore. So what the hell do we think we're doing? And why do we need more troops to do it?

I'm waiting as much as you to hear Obama next Tuesday. He better do a lot of explaining in order to convince this American that a troop build-up is a good idea.
