The Front Page Interview: Pamela Geller on Rifqa Bary
"Jamie Glazov interviewed me for Frontpage magazine. Check it out
Throwing Rifqa to the Wolves – by Jamie Glazov
Here's an excerpt:
'FP: What are the possibilities if the parents do not provide the documents?
Geller: It’s anyone’s guess. The whole family could be deported. The risk to Rifqa’s life is considerable. The sooner Rifqa’s defense team has the documents, the sooner her status can be addressed. There are several different approaches to securing her safety. A person seeking asylum may do so from inside the US and does not have to leave and petition for re-entry. That is the advantage. Religious asylum is seldom granted though. Perhaps Rifqa could file a claim on a civil rights violation (a CAIR move) against her parents.
The question of jurisdiction may appear to be settled but it is not. Dawson said he doesn’t plan to release her until he sees the Bary immigration documents. It will be interesting.
FP: Why do you think there is such silence about apostasy when this is actually causing the case itself? The media is saying nothing about this.
Geller: It’s indicative of how sick our society has become. Spinelessness and ignorance are a lethal combination. Apostasy is the motive behind the death threat. Period. Of course the FDLE found no evidence of a threat, they did not investigate threats of a religious nature. Perhaps the upside (if there could be such a thing) to this terrible case is that the media is being exposed for their conquered, dhimmi approach to the story. And that is why new media/alternative reporting was so critical to this story.
FP: Overall, what do you think this case has signified? What has been its meaning? What have your own impressions been?
Geller: This is a landmark case on so many levels. The obvious is the media’s auto-censorship. Their bias is so fixed that they would rather put a teenage girl’s life at risk than report the story. Why wouldn’t they err on the side of caution? What is Rifqa Bary so terrified of? The media’s indifference is devastating.
It’s the proverbial teaching moment. Why isn’t the media giving Wafa Sultan, Ibn Warraq, Nonie Darwish and any of the thousands of apostates living in the shadows, front page exposure in the media, to help push back, push Islamic supremacism back to the fringe of civilization?
Further, this case pits Sharia law and its absolutism against the rule of law in America. If we turn a blind eye to the execution of sharia law in our society, is that not our sanction? Are we not complicit if we are not vigilant?
The silence of the media, pundits, law enforcement, psychologists, the court system renders the girls, the women, the men murdered in the name of Islam nothing more than a rumor. They are invisible and count for nothing. It speaks volumes to the West’s respect and sanctity of life.
The larger picture is the clash of civilizations, a clash of human systems. The battle is for our very soul.
President Obama addressed the Muslim world in June from Al Ahzar University in Cairo where a fatwa (death penalty) was issued for apostasy. The President described Al Azhar. this way: “For over a thousand years, Al-Azhar has stood as a beacon of Islamic learning, and for over a century, Cairo University has been a source of Egypt’s advancement.”
In that same speech Obama declared, ”….the United States government has gone to court to protect the right of women and girls to wear the hijab and to punish those who would deny it.”
Well, what about the right of women and girls not to wear the hijab?
America is the greatest, the noblest, and in its original founding principles, the first and last moral country (save Israel) in the history of the world – what happened?'"
For an interesting look at what the Muslim world has to say about this case, read from Arab News, which places the blame on right-wing Christians and is quick to defend the radical Columbus, Ohio, mosque, Noor Islamic Cultural Center (NICC).
Check out this interesting paragraph:
"When contacted by Arab News, an NICC official, who wished to remain anonymous, said: 'This is nothing new, right-wing Christians have always attacked active mosques. Noor is a very prominent mosque. It caters to 10,000 Muslims in central Ohio. We have very successful interfaith programs. We have prominent visitors like congressmen, and the president of Bangladesh visited us. We have even been invited to the White House.'"
Of all the mosques in the United States, why has the Obama Administration chosen members of this particular radical mosque to visit the White House? Inquiring minds want to know.

What "evidence" is there that any threat of a honor killing has even been made? For all the mindless verbiage you've posted so far, all I've seen is that honor killings sometimes occur within the Muslim community, the Bary family is Muslim, Rifqa has converted to Christianity, so therefore, obviously (to you) her parents want to kill her.
I'm not suggesting that the parents would actually have to kill the girl before there'd be sufficient evidence to do something, but what do you have (other than your overactive vehemently and disgustingly anti-Muslim imagination) that would even suggest that this particular girl is so much at risk?
No, Diogenes, there is no hard evidence. But, when you take into consideration what Rifqa has said, what has happened to other apostates, and that her parents attend a mosque known to be radical, it is too dangerous to send her back to her parents.
I've got to commend you. You wrote: "all I've seen is that honor killings sometimes occur within the Muslim community."
That's quite an acknowledgement on your part. It's a beginning.
I've never denied it. But I'm also not so childish as to condemn an entire religion because of the actions of an extreme minority.
And you say there's no "hard evidence". What "soft" evidence is there? WHat has Rifqa said to back up her claims? This sounds like a little teenage girl who ran away from home and, with the help of some kooky rightwingnut evangelicals, tried to concoct a story of a planned honor killing when there is none. It is VERY telling that the Florida judge banned that Florida "minister" from having further contact with Rifqa. To date, that guy (and his wife) is the only proven instance of religious extremism in the entire case.
If Rifqa had a history of rebellion, you would have a point. But, she does not. She has instead been an ideal teenage girl.
Keeping her away from the minister and his wife was more than likely done to appease Muslims.
"Honor killings" are recorded in many cultures and religions, I hear about it a lot in Hindu communities in the back waters of India. It is not a statute in Islam. Christians at one time killed pagans, Gnostics, Anabaptis, Arians/anti-trinitarians, Musilims and Jews. That doesn't make Christianity a religion of killing. Most serial killers are American males, does that make all American males suspect??
There is no proof that this girl was in danger. If her father was such a radical why was she allowed on a cheerleading team for years, and she is always pictured with no hair coverings, even in the family home? The father's friend is a Christian and has made statements to the press about their friendship.
There are only accusations that the mosque her family sometimes attended, the Noor Center, is in anyway radical.
I only find allegations by Rifqa's lawyers that espouse this connection. They say the FBI has investigated and are currently investigating the Mosque, but the FBI told Newsweek that this is not true. Reports in Time magazine state that the local Ohio Police also have no evidence to support Rifqa's accusations.

Teens often have trouble with their parents, and rare cases where kids want to disown their parents get some national attention.
Children of immigrants often have trouble understanding their parents and think of them as niave, backward, and un-modern when they struggle to fit in with the community outside the home. When they become adults they see that they held some unrealistic opinions about their parents.
It is very clear who is filled with religious fervor - that is Rifqa and the Evangelicals who took her in illegally. The GLOBAL REVOLUTION CHURCH is quite a name! Pastor Lorenz is the only person on record pushing for religious intolerance "These are the last days; these are the end times," he said, "and this conflict between Islam and Christianity is going to grow greater."
